CNN’s John Avlon Accuses Senate Republicans Of Ducking The Truth Ahead Of Christine Ford’s Testimony

CNN commentator John Avlon accused Senate Republicans of ignoring the “truth” because they’ve declined to call more witnesses during Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing.

Journalist Ronan Farrow reported a second accuser who went to Yale University with Kavanaugh named Deborah Ramirez in a Sunday article for The New Yorker and she claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a “drunken dormitory party.”

She also said she has gaps in her memory from that night and admitted to being intoxicated at the time of the alleged incident.

“To the idea that there’s no other witnesses here, that it’s just professor Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh scheduled on Thursday — this new allegation I think does draws questions into that,” said “New Day” host John Berman on Monday. (RELATED: Ronan Farrow Says Democrats Actively Sought Out Second Kavanaugh Accuser)

“Because there is someone who could say whether it’s true or not, something like this did happen,” Berman continued.

Avlon responded by critiquing GOP members and said if they don’t call more witnesses to discuss Kavanaugh’s alleged misconduct, it will become “problematic” for them quickly.

“As this expands and Ms. Ramirez is included in any kind of inquiry, it’s going to be difficult to say, ‘We are only focusing on Ford and then we’re going to have a vote.’ I think the Senate Republicans’ decision to not to call other witnesses, particularly Judge, is just basically problematic. It seems to say that they’re not interested in an inquiry in the truth,” Avlon concluded.

“One of the people that Dr. Ford named said, who had been a life long friend said, she had no recollection of Mr. Kavanaugh, or, Judge Kavanaugh or the party. And that’s a significant fact as well.”
