President Trump shot back sharply at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday, shortly after the California Democrat announced plans to hold a discussion on the 25th Amendment Friday.
“Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation,” the president responded via Twitter. “They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!”
Pelosi, who was caught violating coronavirus restrictions last month, made the announcement during a Thursday press conference, in which she insinuated the 25th Amendment could be invoked to remove the president should he win in November.
“By the way, tomorrow — come here tomorrow. We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment,” she stated.
The 25th Amendment pertains to filling the vacancy left by the president should he be removed from office, die while in office, or resign.
Conservatives immediately took her words to mean Democrats were hedging their bets and planning to stage yet another coup attempt if things don’t go their way.
The Speaker admitted last Friday she’d not been contacted by the White House regarding Continuity of Government plans, which place her second in line to the presidency, following the president’s positive COVID diagnosis.
“But that is an ongoing, not with the White House but with the military, quite frankly, in terms of the — some officials in the government,” she said.
